So, I think as I get older February is the longest and most difficult month to remain upbeat and motivated. The days are short, cold and sometimes void of sunshine. What do I do to help? A typical day is filled with happy music, tasks that I find organize our daily living and color — lots and lots of color. I never thought twice about answering this question in the past, “Where do you get the inspiration for those bold colors?” I simply answered that nature around me provides me the only color palette I need.
But as I sit here preparing for another February workday, I am reminded of a beautiful fall day walking the lower pasture and smelling the sweet aromas of fall; someone’s leaf fire in the distance, apples on the trees, the stream flowing and the smell of dew on the freshly-cut grass. Oh but wait, we probably took a ride to our secret little beach for a quick picnic lunch and now I am thinking of the blues, the greens, the gray-browns of a Spring day last May. I think those are my two color palettes for today.
I am guessing I am in a gradient pack kind of mood. Next week I should be able to post those pictures. You see if I keep daydreaming of warmer weather and day trips– I will still be here when it is time to make dinner. Do you have days like this?
Now that I have my plan of action for the day, I need to act. So, I will leave you with a little color show to help chase away your Winter Blues today. Remember — happy music and play it loud, pick one task to complete and knit or crochet with a vibrant color even for a little bit today. This prescription will help you smile and maybe daydream a little. Enjoy the show!
