TO FELT:       Put in washer with hot, soapy water and several pair of jeans and agitate aggressively for five minutes—check progress.  Keep checking the hat and rolling the brim throughout the cycle while you check progress and size.  It is important to watch progress closely.  After spin cycle, try on hat and shape.  Your hat may require additional washing or drying in the dryer.

Note:  It is hard to put a time to felting as all of our washers work differently; our hot water is not the same temperature, etc.  So, where my hat may have taken 1 full cycle—yours may take 2.  Don’t get discouraged just wash, rinse, spin and dry again if necessary. I, also like to manipulate the brim of my hat.  I usually do a little hand work at the end of the felting cycle.  Using hot, hot soapy water and gloves rub and roll the brim to your liking.  I may even add a piece of 3/8" rope and stitch my brim for a continual rolled look as in the Cadet Blue hat above.
